What is the Social Model of Disability?
The social model of disability is the belief that disabled people are not defective or damaged, but rather they have been disadvantaged by society. This model arose in response to the medical model of disability, which focuses on individual deficits and medical treatments. The social model holds that society is responsible for accommodating disabled people and removing barriers to their inclusion.
